Como have officially announced the signing of midfielder Sergi Roberto on a two-year contract. The former Barcelona captain, who joined the Catalan giants at the age of 14 and went on to win seven Spanish league titles and two Champions League trophies, arrives at Como as a free agent.
Sergi boasts an impressive 479 appearances across all competitions, including La Liga, Copa del Rey, FIFA Club World Cup, and the Spanish national team.
Como’s manager, Cesc Fàbregas, expressed his enthusiasm about the signing: “Sergi has played his entire career at one of the best clubs in the world. He’s a versatile player who can adapt to various positions, from midfield to defensive wing. With his passing accuracy and physical strength, he’s the definition of a box-to-box player. His experience will be crucial for this season.”
Commenting on his decision to join Como, Sergi stated: “I firmly believe in this project and consider this new experience an important challenge for my career. I met with the ownership and sensed great passion and enthusiasm. I think they’re making the right choices, and I’m happy to be part of it.”
He added, “When Cesc first contacted me, he explained the club’s ambitions: the climb from Serie D to Serie A in just five years and his aspirations as a coach. It’s exciting to contribute to this team’s growth. I’m convinced I can help this club achieve its goals with commitment and dedication. I can’t wait to get started.”
