Atalanta have officially announced the acquisition of Stefan Posch from Bologna on a temporary basis until June, with an option to buy. The 27-year-old Austrian international defender brings considerable Serie A experience to the Bergamo-based club, having made 75 appearances in the Italian top flight over the past two and a half seasons.
Posch, who has chosen the number 5 shirt for his new club, is well-versed in Italian football. His journey in Serie A began in the summer of 2022 when he joined Bologna, initially on loan before making the move permanent. During his time with the Rossoblu, he amassed an impressive 85 appearances across all competitions, contributing 7 goals and 6 assists.
The Austrian defender’s career began in his homeland with Admira Wacker’s youth setup before he moved to Germany to join Hoffenheim. It was there that he made his professional debut in the UEFA Europa League in September 2017 against Ludogorets. Over five seasons in the Bundesliga, Posch made 109 appearances for Hoffenheim.
In the current season, Posch has featured 14 times in Serie A and made 6 appearances in the UEFA Champions League, showcasing his ability to perform at the highest level of European football.
On the international stage, Posch has been a regular for Austria since June 2019, earning 42 caps and scoring 2 goals for his country.
