Lazio’s Portuguese defender Nuno Tavares is set to be out of action for approximately ten days due to an injury sustained during Wednesday’s match against Real Sociedad. The official verdict on the extent of his left adductor injury will be confirmed today following medical examinations.
Initial assessments suggest that while the worst-case scenario of a prolonged absence has been avoided, Tavares will still need to sit out for at least a week and a half. This means he will miss tomorrow’s fixture against Fiorentina, Thursday’s Europa League match in Braga, and most likely the away game at Cagliari the following Monday.
There is a slim chance that Tavares could return for the Cagliari match, but at present, this seems unlikely. The more realistic target for his comeback is the game against Monza on February 9th, by which time other injured players like Lazzari and Vecino may also be ready to return.
In positive news for Lazio, Patric’s condition is improving, and surgery has been ruled out. Meanwhile, the club is dealing with off-field issues as well. Following violent clashes between Lazio and Spanish ultras in Rome’s Monti district on Wednesday night, one Lazio fan has been arrested, and four others have been reported to authorities. The incidents were captured on CCTV cameras in the area.
The three Spanish fans injured in the clashes are in stable condition, with even the most severely affected not in life-threatening danger. In a separate development, Lazio supporters have been banned from traveling to the away match in Cagliari on February 3rd.
