Nigeria national team coach José Peseiro explained that Victor Osimhen ‘lives with the idea of becoming the best striker in the world.’ The Napoli striker has been pivotal in their title charge this season, topping the Serie A scoring charts while also helping the Partenopei qualify from a Champions League group that included Liverpool, Ajax and Rangers.
The strikers sensational form is not a surprise to Peseiro who spoke with La Gazzetta dello Sport about the 24-year-old, and why he believes Osimhen has the unique ability to not feel pressure and hold his nerve at all times:
“He lives with the idea of becoming the best striker in the world, and he is already among the best. What is it that he can’t do? Physically he is dominant, he kicks hard, he is good with his head, when you mark him you never know where he will turn. He needs to improve his ball handling, but he’s 24 years old. There’s time.
“Have I spoken with Spalletti? Yes, also with the general manager Cristiano Giuntoli. They helped make him the machine he is. I congratulated him and wished him good luck for the Scudetto. I know that in Naples superstition is a serious matter, I won’t get into it.
“Osimhen’s strength? Not knowing pressure. He holds his nerve in all circumstances, and he learnt that in Serie A. He doesn’t give an inch. He has taken several knocks in recent months, but in order to play he does so wearing a mask. At Napoli they are crazy about him. And I can only be happy. I want to win the African Cup of Nations.”
