Italian newspaper Il Messaggero claim that Nicolo Zaniolo is ready to sue Roma, with relations between club and player at an all-time low. The 23-year-old had requested to be transferred in the January window, and while his preferred destination was Milan, the only firm offer came from Premier League side Bournemouth.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that after initially rejecting their offer, the player had decided to accept a move, only for Bournemouth to pull out of the deal.
Zaniolo has been the subject of angry attacks from Roma ultras who gathered outside his home at the weekend, following Roma’s 2-1 loss to Napoli on Sunday evening, blaming the youngster for the defeat.
Il Messaggero now report that Zaniolo is readying a pool of lawyers to sue Roma for ‘mobbing and psychological pressure’ following the events of the last few weeks. The newspaper claims the player’s parents believe the recent ‘media massacre’ of the Italy international has been triggered by the Giallorossi.
Zaniolo is currently training alone at Roma’s Trigoria training centre, but missed yesterday’s session without alerting the club.
There have been suggestions that the Roma ownership are prepared to let him spend the rest of the season in the stands, or possibly until his contract runs out in 2024.
