Nicolò Fagioli: “Our goal will be to qualify for the Champions League”

Start

Nicolò Fagioli spoke to in-house media via Twitch about Juventus’ current situation on and off the pitch.

The young midfielder addressed the 15-point deduction, the draw with Atalanta, his role model in Juve’s squad, and personal aspirations for the future.

Fagioli, 21, has featured 10 times in Serie A this season. The young midfielder enjoyed a fruitful spell on loan with Cremonese in Serie B last season helping to promote the club, and, in turn, prompting Massimiliano Allegri to promote him to Juve’s first team setup.

Speaking after Juve drew 3-3 with Atalanta, Fagioli was asked for his reflections on the game. He said:

“There is regret for not having won against Atalanta. It was a pity to have conceded two goals at the start of the second half.

“We were very good, however, to close the first half ahead and recover the disadvantage in the second half. At the end of the game we were happy with the performance, but in everyone’s eyes there was the feeling that we could have taken home the three points.

“We take with us for the next matches the wonderful reaction we had under 0-1 and then 2-3.”

On the recent 15-point deduction and the club’s overall situation presently, Fagioli said:

“We didn’t expect the fifteen penalty points that were inflicted on us. Taking the field with Atalanta and playing wasn’t necessarily easy for us, but we made it as a group.

“Now our goal will be to qualify for the Champions League.

“On Saturday we also had a discussion with the Ferrero Chairman and the Scanavino CEO who reassured us and told us that they will fight to get the penalty eliminated. It was a meeting that served us well and in which we were asked, even more now, to fight together with all we’ve got for this shirt.

“As for current events on the pitch, I am very happy with the moment we are going through. Before the stop in Naples we were coming from eight consecutive victories and in addition in the Coppa Italia we passed the round of 16 and we have a good challenge on the horizon against Lazio to snatch a pass for the semi-final.”

On who he admires and looks to for guidance in the dressing room, Fagioli admitted:

“For me Danilo is a point of reference.

“He has always shown that he is an extraordinary boy and in the last few games that he has played with the captain’s armband on, given the absence of Leo (Bonucci), he has given further proof of determination.

“He has a lot of charisma and I think it’s lucky for us young players to have such players in the team. We can only grow and improve. Dani and all his more experienced companions are a constant source of inspiration for the behaviour they maintain on and above all off the pitch.”

Discussing personal pride and aspirations, the young Italian midfielder detailed:

“At the beginning of this season I experienced another unforgettable moment. When I made my debut in the senior national team, the emotion was indescribable. I still remember the first ball touched, with the chest.

“I think wearing the blue shirt is the dream of every child who wants to become a footballer. My dream with Italy would be to play in the 2026 World Cup and, why not, to win it.”
