Former Argentine defender Nicolas Burdisso, now a director at Fiorentina, has decided not to renew his contract with the club. Sky Sport Italia report that the Viola tried to retain him, but Burdisso prefers to embark on a new experience to return to the role of sporting director, as he has already had the opportunity to do at Boca Juniors.
Sky also suggest that while there have been no direct contacts with Roma, Burdisso would be welcomed by Daniele De Rossi, with whom he played alongside in the capital from 2010 to 2014. However, his decision hinges on more than just personal connections; Burdisso would prefer the move to be sanctioned by the coach and club directors, rather than solely based on his friendship with De Rossi.
This development comes after Roma’s recent announcement that De Rossi will extend his stay at the club beyond June 2024. Meanwhile, Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso has confirmed that Daniele Pradé will continue in his role as the club’s sporting director for the upcoming season.
