Young Roma midfielder Niccolò Pisilli expressed his surprise and gratitude during a press conference following his first call-up to the Italian national team. The 20-year-old shared his thoughts on this significant milestone in his career and addressed questions about his future.

“The call-up? At first, I didn’t expect it at all, then after the pre-selection, I thought ‘Let’s wait and see.’ Now I’ll try to learn from all my teammates; they’re the best of the best,” Pisilli began. Regarding Coach Spalletti’s words of praise, he added, “I hope to turn them into concrete actions.”

Discussing his objectives with the national team, Pisilli stated, “My aim is to improve day by day and learn a bit from everyone. I try to take something from each player. Who do I look up to? I don’t feel like naming anyone specific.”

The young midfielder took the opportunity to express his gratitude to his former coaches: “I want to thank De Rossi, Mourinho, and Juric. Without them, I would never have made it. If I’m here, it’s because they gave me the opportunity to be here.” He also reflected on his experience with the youth teams, saying, “Everything has enriched me: wearing the national team jersey is always an honor.”

When asked about the possibility of becoming a Roma icon, Pisilli responded modestly to Frattesi’s complimentary remarks: “Frattesi said that, and his words are very pleasing. However, it’s still too early to say if I’ll spend my entire career with Roma.”
