Scott McTominay Suffers Injury Setback During Napoli’s Draw At Bologna

Start

Napoli’s hopes of winning the Scudetto took a huge blow on Monday night with star midfielder Scott McTominay going off injured against Bologna.

The Scotland international had to be substituted on the 70th minute for compatriot Billy Gilmour. To make matters worse, fellow Tartan Army man Lewis Ferguson also missed the game at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

In the warm up, the 25-year-old appeared to suffer a muscle injury. Naturally, the double whammy will be a cause of concern for Gli Azzurri boss Antonio Conte.

From McTominay’s perspective, the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona faithful will be hoping the former Manchester United midfielder’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Scott McTominay Injury Update Doesn’t Bode Well For Napoli

At this stage, it’s too early to tell whether Scott McTominay’s injury update will rule him out for the season run in. However, it doesn’t bode well for Napoli’s Serie A title chances.

In a statement, assistant coach Cristian Stellini said that McTominay was forced off after suffering a “knock to his thigh and his side.”

The game itself against Bologna finished 1-1. Frank Anguissa gave Gli Azzurri the lead after 18 minutes. In the second half, Dan Ndoye equalised shortly before McTominay left the field of play.

As it stands, Antonio Conte’s side are three points behind leaders Inter. Both sides have played 31 games each and have already played each other twice in 2024/25.

Scott McTominay’s Napoli Stats

Scott McTominay’s Napoli stats have been hugely impressive since joining the club in August 2024. After completing his transfer from Manchester United, McTominay wasted no time at all in winning over the Gli Azzurri supporters.

He scored his first goal in the 5-0 win against Derby delle Due Sicilie rivals Palermo. McTominay’s first Serie A goal came just 25 seconds into the 3-1 victory against Como.

At the time of writing, McTominay has featured in 29 games across all competitions for Antonio Conte’s side. The 28-year-old has scored seven goals and provided four assists.

With that in mind, Conte and the Gli Azzurri fans will be hoping that McTominay is able to make a swift recovery and get back on the pitch ASAP.
