Paolo Montero to take charge of Juve’s final fixtures

Start

Juventus are set to appoint Paolo Montero as the interim head coach for the final two games of the 2023-24 season, following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri.  This decision comes in the wake of Allegri’s sacking, which the club attributed to behavior deemed “incompatible” with the “values of Juventus.”

Montero, a former defender for the club, currently serves as the coach of the Juventus Under-19 youth team. Despite the urgency of the situation, the official announcement of his appointment will be delayed until Saturday afternoon. This delay is strategic, as Montero must serve a touchline ban for the Under-19 team’s match on Saturday morning. Once this obligation is fulfilled, he will be free to assume his duties with the senior team.

Montero’s tenure as interim coach will begin with Monday’s crucial match against Bologna, followed by the season finale against Monza. The Uruguayan, who played for Juventus from 1996 to 2005, brings a wealth of experience from his coaching stints in South America and Italy before rejoining Juventus in 2022 to lead the youth team.

Looking ahead to the next season, it has been widely reported that Juventus has secured a deal with Bologna coach Thiago Motta, indicating a new direction for the club’s leadership.
