The latest Manuel Neuer injury update has confirmed that the Bayern Munich captain will miss Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Inter.
Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Davide Frattesi gave the Serie A side a 2-1 win at the Allianz Arena in the quarter-final first leg clash.
The Nerazzurri go into the return fixture as slight favorites owing to their victory in Germany. However, Simeone Inzaghi’s side will be well aware of the threat Bayern pose.
Vincent Kompany’s side have the better overall H2H record in the UCL. That despite losing the final to Inter 15 years ago. Nonetheless, the Belgian head coach has plenty to ponder ahead of this week’s clash.
His Bayern side have been hit with several injuries to key stars such as Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, Hiroki Ito and former Juventus man Kingsley Coman.
Manuel Neuer Injury Update
Having missed the first leg, Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will also miss Wednesday’s clash at the San Siro. The legendary goalkeeper hasn’t recovered from a calf injury in time.
That will mean Jonas Urbig will keep his place in between the sticks having sat in for Neuer in recent weeks. So far, the 21-year-old has kept just one clean sheet in Neuer’s absence.
Urbig’s performance at the San Siro will prove pivotal if the Bundesliga leaders are to upset the odds and advance to the semi-final.
With the likes of Jamal Musiala, Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies, Kingsley Coman and Hiroki Ito all ruled out, Bayern are certainly up against it.
Going into the match, Vincent Kompany’s side drew 2-2 with rivals Borussia Dortmund. Raphael Guerreiro and Serge Gnabry netted for the Bavarians.
Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri will be brimming with confidence. On Marko Arnautovic, Lautaro Martinez and Yann Aurel Bisseck netted in a 3-1 win over Cagliari.
