AC Milan and England right-back Kyle Walker faces a spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on an elbow injury suffered in training.

Kyle Walker Undergoes Surgery On Elbow Injury

AC Milan have been dealt a major injury blow following confirmation that Manchester City loanee Kyle Walker has undergone surgery on his right elbow after suffering a fracture during training.

A statement from the club read: “AC Milan can confirm that Kyle Walker sustained a fracture in his right elbow today. To ensure better healing and optimise recovery time, the player underwent surgery in Milan to repair the olecranon through osteosynthesis.

“The operation went perfectly to plan. Kyle will begin rehabilitation immediately.”

Walker, who joined I Rossoneri on loan from Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens in January, has been a mainstay in Sergio Conceicao’s side over the past two and a half months.

He has made a total of 12 appearances across all competitions, as his side sit in ninth place in the Serie A table, while they are also level at 1-1 against Inter after the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie.

Milan have the option of making the 34-year-old’s temporary move a permanent one at the end of the campaign, but his injury, which can take anywhere between four weeks to a few months to recover from according to Google, has the potential to complicate any prospective transfer.

Will Kyle Walker Return To Manchester City?

It remains unclear how long Walker will be out of action for, but at this moment in time, it doesn’t seem as though he’ll be returning to Manchester City and will likely continue his recovery in the capital of Lombardy.

Whether he remains at the San Siro beyond this season is another question, however, as despite several reports claiming that Walker is expected to join permanently, transfer specialist Matteo Moretto says Milan have doubts over the move.

Speaking to Fabrizio Romano last month, Moretto said: “Kyle Walker arrived at Milan in January on a free loan with an option to buy set at 5 million euros. There is a lot of talk about Walker’s future and the fact that the player will remain in the Rossoneri until 2027.

“He has signed a contract until June, extendable until 2027: everything is already established and set. The player earns 2.5 million euros net in these first few months, and then his salary will become 4.5 million. He will become one of the highest paid in the squad.

“What I can tell you today is that, checking and speaking both on the Milan side and the player’s entourage, at the moment the Rossoneri are in a standby mode regarding the permanent signing of the English full-back. At the moment Milan has not yet made a decision.

“The club, beyond the sporting director and coach who will come, are reflecting on the future and performances of Walker. There are two big doubts: the balance between age and salary that he would earn, this makes Milan think.

“The Rossoneri have not actually made a definitive decision yet: at the moment there are not all these certainties of a permanent signing. If he were to be redeemed, City could also have a small percentage of the future resale.”
