“Fabulous Inter!“: Italian Papers Lavish Praise On Simeone Inzaghi’s Side After Ending Bayern’s Stunning UCL Home Record

Start

Here at FootItalia, we’ve taken a look through the Italian sports newspapers for Wednesday and there is only one major story generating all the headlines.

Inter Milan’s stunning 2-1 victory against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final first leg is dominating the front pages. Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Davide Frattesi ensured Simeone Inzaghi’s side left Germany with a vital win.

The Serie A giants have one foot in the last four of Europe’s elite club competition and are very much on course to complete a historic treble.

With that in mind, it was always a case of the sports outlets heaping praise on Inter Milan. Especially after they became the first side since 2021 to beat Bayern Munich in the UCL at the Allianz Arena.

La Gazzetta Dello Sport Praise “Fabulous Inter Milan”

La Gazzetta dello Sport opted for the headline: “Fabulous Inter.” In all honesty, Inter Milan were simply fabulous against Bayern Munich.

The reputable sports newspaper also went on to explain how close the Nerazzurri are to reaching the Champions League semi-final and a draw in the return leg is all that’s required at the San Siro next week.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was given a huge reality check as his Los Blancos side were crushed 3-0 by Arsenal in the other quarter-final.

Kyle Walker was also given a mention. The AC Milan defender is set to miss the rest of the 2024/25 campaign after undergoing surgery on a fractured elbow.

Corriere Dello Sport

Unsurprisingly, Corriere dello Sport opted to highlight Inter Milan’s success and went with the headline “Sim One.” That of course, is a reference to Inter’s win and head coach Simeone Inzaghi.

There were also mentions about how Inter became the first side in four years to win a UCL game at the home of Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid’s thrashing against Arsenal was also given vital column inches. In other news, referees Marco Guida and Fabio Maresca explained they won’t officiate Napoli games.

That decision was made to their safety. “When I made mistakes, walking in the streets or going to the grocery store wasn’t exactly safe,” Guida explained.

Tuttosport

Lastly, Tuttosport covered the Inter Milan victory but also prioritized a transfer story centred around Ademola Lookman.

The Atalanta star is being tracked by Serie A giants Juventus about a possible move to the Allianz Stadium in the summer transfer window.

There was also a small mention given regarding the future of fellow Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen. The Napoli forward is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

Osimhen is expected to leave Naples at the end of the season. That should see a bidding war ensue for his much-desired signature.
