Inter’s dreams of winning an unlikely treble this season were shattered on Wednesday evening as they fell to a 3-0 defeat to archrivals Milan in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals, losing out 4-1 on aggregate.
Hakan Calhanoglu canceled out Tammy Abraham’s opener in the first leg, but I Nerazzurri were unable to provide a response to I Rossoneri‘s onslaught this time around, with Luka Jovic handing Sergio Conceicao’s men the lead with a well-taken header at the 36-minute mark.
The Serbian doubled his side’s advantage on the night quickly after returning in the second half, tapping in from close range after a scramble in the box from a corner.
Inter came close to pulling one back through Stefan de Vrij on 68 minutes, but Milan captain Mike Maignan got down well to prevent the Dutchman’s header from finding the back of the net.
With their hopes of making the final fading towards the dying stages, Simone Inzaghi’s side were dealt a hammer blow five minutes from time, as prolific midfielder Tijjani Reijnders slotted home I Rossoneri‘s third on the night to confirm a 4-1 aggregate scoreline.
Milan will face either Bologna or Empoli in the final, although it will likely be the former, as they lead 3-0 on aggregate after the first leg.

I Nerazzurri, now winless in three, return to Serie A action with a home clash against Roma on Sunday before heading to Spain to take on Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final the following Wednesday.
Up next for Conceicao’s cup finalists, they travel to Venice in the league to face Venezia, followed by another away trip to Genoa.
