Harry Kane came close to joining former Serie A club Livorno from Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

As per reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Kane was on Gli Amaranto’s radar after he spent time on loan at EFL Championship clubs Leicester and Norwich.

The current Serie D side had earned promotion to Italy’s Premier division that summer and were looking for players to help improve their offensive play.

Kane was strongly targeted and a transfer fee of €500,000 ($567,000) was mentioned. Although there were also whispers a loan deal with an obligation to buy afterwards was more likely.

The current Bayern star and England captain would go on to become a huge success at Spurs. Kane holds numerous records in north London and has several accolades to his name.

His breakthrough for the Lilywhites came in the 2014-15 campaign. However, things could have been very different had the forward moved to Italy when he was still 20.

Harry Kane Came Close To Signing For Former Serie A Side In 2013

Armando Picchi, who was the sporting director at Livorno in 2013, said a deal for Harry Kane came close to completing.

We sensed something at the time, he had excellent numbers,” Picchi said in a recent interview.

Kane was proposed by an agent. He had scored a couple of goals for Leicester in the Championship, the English Serie B.

There was contact, President Spinelli gave it the okay, and we tried to set up the deal for a loan with an option to buy, I don’t remember the figure.”

Livorno had just achieved promotion to Serie A, (Davide) Nicola was in the dugout. We were looking for a young striker to revolve around Paulinho. We liked Kane immediately, but the negotiations faded away.”

Kane is expected to be back in action on Wednesday as Bayern face Inter in the UCL. The Nerazzuri lead the quarter-final first leg 2-1.
