Monza coach Alessandro Nesta addressed the media following his team’s 2-1 defeat to Udinese, extending their winless streak to eight consecutive matches. The loss at the U-Power Stadium has left Monza languishing in the penultimate position in the Serie A table, deepening their relegation concerns.
Nesta began by reflecting on the match’s difficulty: “It’s a challenging game to comment on. We had 30 shots while they had few, excluding the final minutes. We created many chances, putting them under pressure. We need to try to take the lead occasionally; it changes the dynamics of the games. Instead, we’re always trailing, always chasing.”
Despite the result, Nesta praised his team’s effort: “We played an excellent game with moments of all-out attack, hitting the crossbar and forcing a great save. It’s a shame; the players gave their all and deserve much more.”
Addressing the whistles directed at Daniel Maldini, Nesta defended the player: “He’s a player who takes on a lot of responsibility, never doing anything ordinary. Sometimes we ask him to play simply, but he takes these responsibilities upon himself.”
When questioned about his future at the club, Nesta was candid: “Of course I feel under scrutiny, more because of our position in the table than because of this particular match. I work, I do my job, I understand the reality: if one day they tell me to leave, I’ll pack up my car and go. What else can I do? I pay for my mistakes.”
He added, “If tomorrow no one says anything to me, I’ll go to the training ground, prepare for Lecce with energy, and, most importantly, recharge the team. Today was a blow. If I were to leave, I’d say goodbye to Dr. Galliani with a hug, the last day just like the first time we met. But I won’t go down without a fight.”
Nesta concluded by addressing areas for improvement: “I believe in some situations we can be more balanced. We lost many balls and pay dearly for everything. We’ll analyze these situations to find a better equilibrium. We lost, but with courage, which I appreciate. I certainly hoped for a better situation, but I’ve seen the team grow and become solid.”
