Monza manager Alessandro Nesta addressed the media ahead of their upcoming derby match against Como. The team is coming off a draw with Torino and looking to secure another positive result in what Nesta describes as a “special match” for the fans.
Reflecting on the team’s recent performance and mindset, Nesta stated, “Personally, I don’t see a scared team, but a bit worried. We’re perhaps taking too many risks and we’re concerned about the league table because unfortunately, that’s how it is.” He emphasized the need for the team to capitalize on early opportunities, saying, “If we analyze the match with Torino, I see it differently. We start strong right away and we need to hurt the opponent, creating another situation immediately after with Pedro Pereira. This is what I criticize my team for.”
Regarding the upcoming derby, Nesta acknowledged its significance: “Derbies are matches that remain in history. Last year I had the chance to face Parma – Reggiana. We are aware that for the fans it’s a special match, not like the others. We must arrive in Como tough.” He also praised Como’s coach Fabregas, noting, “He’s a ‘Spanish-style’ coach. I’ve already faced him last year in Serie B and I must say I’ve never seen Como play badly.”
When asked about player availability, Nesta provided updates on several key players. He mentioned that Sensi, while an important player, is currently unable to play full matches due to injury history. He added, “We don’t know how long it will take for him to play 90 minutes, and the same goes for Ciurria. D’Ambrosio, on the other hand, has recovered, as have other players who are on the way to full recovery.”
Nesta also commented on the importance of players like Kyriakopoulos, Dany Mota, and Daniel Maldini to the team. He praised Maldini as “very strong” but noted he still has steps to take in his development.
Addressing the absence of Izzo for the Como match, Nesta said, “He’s a positive guy, he thrives in these games because it’s his natural habitat and we’ll miss him. But whoever replaces him will do well.”
Finally, Nesta sent a message to the fans: “We will give our all, we know it’s a match that the whole city cares about. We have a great sense of responsibility.” He also mentioned that Adriano Galliani, being from Monza, “will certainly feel it more than anyone.”
