On the eve of Monza’s official debut against Genoa, head coach Alessandro Nesta shared his thoughts on the upcoming match and the state of his squad.
Nesta began by expressing his view on the opposition, stating, “Genoa is a team at our level. There will be two teams on a beautiful pitch that we have redone here.” This comment suggests that Nesta sees the match as an even contest, with both teams having similar capabilities.
Regarding team selection, Nesta revealed some uncertainty about his goalkeeper choice: “This morning I saw Turati, this afternoon we have training and we’ll see how he is, then we’ll decide who will play tomorrow.” This indicates that Nesta is still evaluating his options and will make a last-minute decision based on player fitness.
The coach also commented on striker Andrea Petagna’s performance and potential role: “Petagna will give us a hand. For the Empoli match, he did well, always with defenders on him. There will be cleaner games where he will play more.” This suggests that Nesta sees Petagna as a valuable asset, particularly in matches where he can have more space to operate.
Addressing the team’s offensive capabilities, Nesta acknowledged the need for improvement: “We need to create more. The Empoli match was a ball-kicking affair, partly due to the field, with teams playing vertically.” He then touched on potential transfer activity, saying, “We’re thinking about it, but I don’t believe we’ll make moves in the forward line. If there’s any possibility, we’ll do something, but the priority is in other areas.”
Nesta concluded with an update on player availability, noting, “Everyone is returning. Forson resumed training with us yesterday.” This positive news about squad fitness could be crucial as Monza prepares for their match against Genoa.
