Nesta furious after loss to Atalanta: “I don’t understand why our goal was cancelled”

Monza manager Alessandro Nesta expressed his frustration following his team’s 2-0 defeat against Atalanta. In a post-match interview, Nesta voiced his disappointment over a disallowed goal that could have changed the course of the game.

The controversial moment occurred when the score was still 0-0. Monza thought they had taken the lead, but the goal was ruled out for an alleged foul by Djuric on Ederson. Nesta was visibly upset about this decision, stating, “I don’t understand why he blew the whistle. There’s no foul there.”

The Monza manager went on to compare the incident to other physical encounters during the match, saying, “Retegui and Pablo Mari were battling each other throughout the entire game, and he let it go.” He acknowledged that referees can make mistakes but insisted that nothing warranting a foul occurred in that particular instance.

Despite the disappointing result, Nesta found positives in his team’s performance. He praised his players’ efforts, saying, “I’m very pleased with my team. We played an excellent match, and they brought a lot from the bench.” He noted that several players had returned from injury, which contributed to the team’s strong showing.

Nesta emphasized that Monza had controlled much of the game and didn’t allow Atalanta many opportunities. He added, “We suffered little. Atalanta came on strong later, but I’m very happy with my squad.”
