Monza manager Alessandro Nesta spoke to the the media ahead of his team’s upcoming match against AC Milan, emphasizing the need for bravery and tactical awareness against the Rossoneri.
Reflecting on their recent loss to Atalanta and looking forward to the Milan clash, Nesta stated, “Our journey so far is clear. We must enter matches with the right mindset and create the right atmosphere. Against Milan, we need to show the same courage we had in Bergamo against Atalanta.”
When asked about the potential advantage of playing again so soon, Nesta was cautious: “I don’t know if it’s an advantage, I’ll tell you after the match. In Bergamo, we recovered many players like D’Ambrosio and others. With three matches a week, having a deep squad is crucial.”
Discussing tactical options, Nesta explained, “At the moment, Monza has problems in midfield, and I believe that to play with two strikers, we need a larger number in midfield. If you put more up front, you lack something at the back; the blanket is short.”
On facing his former club, Nesta expressed his emotions: “It’s always a pleasure. I haven’t been with many teams in my life. It’s always very nice to meet Milan and Lazio.”
Nesta also commented on Milan’s star player Rafael Leao: “When he turns on, Milan turns on. We haven’t seen his 100% yet. Leao is a player who takes his breaks but still makes an impact. Milan has many such players, they are strong.”
Regarding Monza’s approach, Nesta emphasized, “Monza will need courage. Courage grows based on results. If you’re last, courage diminishes, it’s normal. We need to be brave, especially with the ball at our feet. We need to scare opponents, but we’re growing.”
On the injury front, Nesta provided an update: “Petagna, Sensi, Gagliardini, and Forson are out. Birindelli, however, has returned.”
Discussing selection choices for the attacking midfielder role, Nesta said, “Two will start and two will come in. We’ve had three matches and we’ve made decisions on rotations. Daniel Maldini needs to be monitored, to understand if he’ll still have any problems or not.”
