Napoli reach agreement with David Neres, Benfica asking €25 million

Start

Napoli are on the brink of securing a significant signing as they reach a total agreement with Brazilian playmaker David Neres from Benfica. The Portuguese club has set a price of €25 million for the transfer. Neres is eager to don the blue jersey for the upcoming season, seeking a fresh start under the guidance of Antonio Conte. Although the final agreement is yet to be reached, yesterday marked considerable progress in the negotiations, bringing Neres closer to a move to Serie A.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Brazilian midfielder has expressed his readiness to join Napoli after being relegated to a secondary role at Benfica following the confirmation of Angel Di Maria’s position. Neres has urged for a swift conclusion to the deal, which is valued at approximately €25 million. Conte is confident in his ability to help Neres regain his top form, reminiscent of his performances with Ajax in the Champions League. Neres is expected to join a dynamic lineup alongside players like Kvaratskhelia and potentially Romelu Lukaku, offering exciting prospects for Napoli’s attacking play.

While the countdown for Neres’s arrival is nearly complete, Napoli are also advancing in their pursuit of Billy Gilmour. The midfielder has decided to leave Brighton, and negotiations are underway to align the financial terms with Napoli’s offer. Initially, the deal seemed feasible at around €12-13 million, but Brighton’s increased demands have complicated matters. A resolution around €15 million seems plausible.

Additionally, Napoli are finalizing the acquisition of Marco Brescianini from Frosinone. The deal involves a loan with an obligation to buy for a total of €10 million , with Milan entitled to 50% of any future resale. Meanwhile, young defender Iaccarino might move to Frosinone, although this is not directly linked to the Brescianini transfer.

On the outgoing front, Jens Cajuste is set to join Brentford, with an announcement expected soon. The English club’s offer, which includes a purchase obligation contingent on their Premier League status, was deemed the most advantageous. Talks for Gianluca Gaetano’s move to Parma have stalled due to a discrepancy in valuation, leaving room for Cagliari to re-enter negotiations. The situation regarding Victor Osimhen remains a separate matter, with potential developments expected soon.
