Napoli legend Hamsik endorses McTominay as potential heir

Start

Former Napoli captain and midfield maestro Marek Hamsik has shared his thoughts on the club’s current squad and recent managerial appointment in a recent interview. The Slovak legend expressed optimism about the team’s future and praised several key decisions made by the club.

Regarding potential successors to his role at Napoli, Hamsik singled out Scott McTominay: “McTominay could be my heir. He’s an offensive midfielder who, like me, loves to make runs into the box and score goals. We’ll see, it depends on the formation. But he’s a strong name, he’s proven it with United and in the national team. A valid alternative for Lobotka and Anguissa.”

Hamsik also emphasized the importance of Stanislav Lobotka to the current Napoli setup: “Lobotka is untouchable in this Napoli. He holds the keys to the midfield.”

On the appointment of Antonio Conte as the new Napoli manager, Hamsik was enthusiastic: “I’m very happy about the victory against Parma: coming from behind like that means a lot. It will give a nice boost. Conte is a strong choice by the club, a coach with enormous experience and success. We all know who he is and how he works: he’s the right name after the situation that developed last season. We need to rediscover enthusiasm and grit, and with him, the journey will be shorter.”

Hamsik also commented on Napoli’s transfer activities: “Very high marks. Of course, it’s a shame about Osimhen’s departure, but perhaps that relates to things beyond football. Anyway, it’s not my concern. And then a valid replacement arrived, it seems to me. Lukaku is a great center-forward. One who can easily score 20 goals.”
