The race to sign talented youngster Matija Popović has taken another turn, with Napoli now closing in on his signing. The 18-year-old was closely linked with a switch to AC Milan for the last six months, with the Rossoneri reportedly keeping a slot open for the Serbian midfielder.
Bayern Munich made their interest known in recent weeks, and reports from Germany suggested the Bundesliga champions had stolen a march on the opposition to sign him.
Sky Sport Italia now report that Popović is now set to undergo medicals with Napoli, with a transfer thought to be very close to completion.
According to their report, Popović will sign with the Partenopei before going straight out on loan to Serie A side Frosinone.
Transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that ‘Popovic’s medical examinations are ready and the parties are working to prepare the last documents and iron out the final details between Napoli, Frosinone and the player’s entourage.’
