Juventus manager Thiago Motta addressed the media ahead of the crucial Serie A clash against Napoli, providing insights into his team’s preparation and recent signings.
Motta expressed satisfaction with the integration of new arrivals Costa and Kolo Muani, stating, “The integration of Costa and Kolo Muani is going very well. We have everyone available except for the long-term injured players.”
Regarding the addition of Randal Kolo Muani, Motta explained, “Randal is available. We’ll see if he starts tomorrow or not. We brought in a player of his caliber because a big team like ours needs it to help us win matches.”
The manager addressed the team’s position in the league table, acknowledging Napoli’s current lead. “It’s the reality. Napoli is ahead and they deserve it. At this moment, we’re behind, but it will be a great match, and we must face it in our best version. They are a great team with a great coach, but we are ready.”
Motta also discussed the recent performance of his attacking players, particularly after the match against Club Brugge. “I made a call to our attackers after the Brugge game, but it was seen as criticism. I criticize if there’s a lack of attitude, but my players’ attitude is impeccable. My call comes from knowing the potential of my attackers and how much they can give. I know it’s difficult to perform at their best with many things outside the field that I’m aware of, but I spoke with them precisely because I know they can help us.”
On team selection, Motta emphasized the importance of competition within the squad. “The difficulty is always choosing 11 to send onto the field. Competition helps, stimulates, and drives upwards. In a team like ours, it’s normal, it raises the level in training but especially in matches.”
Discussing tactical approaches for the Napoli game, Motta said, “I expect a different match from the first leg when we were at home. It’s no coincidence they’ve conceded few goals so far, but playing at the Maradona, I believe they will try to control the game despite knowing how to play a low block as they did in Turin. We need to know when to press and how to attack them with balance.”
Motta also praised Manuel Locatelli’s leadership, stating, “His character in the dressing room is crucial. It’s no coincidence that he has gradually become the captain. With commitment and consistency in training, with his usefulness on the field, it all came naturally.”
In conclusion, Motta addressed the challenges faced by the team: “When I spoke of difficulties, I was referring to unforeseen injuries and other situations we’ve overcome. Sometimes we deserved more, sometimes not, and that’s the point we need to improve on – we are Juventus. When one team is superior to another, it has more chances to prevail. Tomorrow we have another opportunity to be superior.”
