Former Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti recently opened up about his decision to sell the club and shared his thoughts on current star striker Lautaro Martinez. In an interview with Radio Anch’io Sport (via Calciomercato), Moratti provided insights into the challenges he faced and the future of the club.
Moratti explained that his decision to sell Inter Milan was primarily driven by financial considerations. He stated, “I sold Inter because the club needed significant investments that I couldn’t afford at the time. The football landscape had changed, and it was no longer possible for a single family to sustain such a large club.”
The former president emphasized that the sale was necessary to ensure the club’s continued competitiveness in both domestic and international competitions. He added, “It was a difficult decision, but I believe it was the right one for the future of Inter.”
When asked about what advice he would give to current Inter star Lautaro Martinez, Moratti was full of praise for the Argentine striker. He said, “If I were to speak to Lautaro, I would tell him that he’s already part of Inter’s history. He’s a fantastic player who has given so much to the club.”
Moratti went on to express his hope that Martinez would continue his career with Inter, stating, “I would encourage him to stay and become an even bigger legend at the club. He has the potential to be one of Inter’s all-time greats.”
Reflecting on the current state of the club, Moratti expressed optimism about Inter’s future. He commented, “The team is in good hands, and I believe they have the potential to achieve great things. The current management has done a good job in maintaining the club’s competitiveness while also ensuring financial stability.”
Moratti also touched on the importance of balancing financial considerations with sporting ambitions. He said, “It’s crucial for modern football clubs to find the right balance between economic sustainability and on-field success. I think Inter is on the right path in this regard.”
Throughout the interview, Moratti’s deep affection for Inter Milan was evident. He reminisced about some of the club’s greatest moments during his tenure, including the historic treble-winning season in 2010. “Those memories will always be special to me,” he said. “I’m proud of what we achieved during my time as president.”
