Monza’s Nesta: “Ciurria needs time, Pessina will never be in question”

Monza head coach Alessandro Nesta addressed the media in a press conference ahead of their Serie A match against Atalanta. The former Italian defender discussed his team’s current form, injury concerns, and expectations for the upcoming fixture.

When asked about potential changes to the lineup compared to the Venezia match, Nesta acknowledged some difficulties: “We will change something, although we’re a bit short on numbers. For example, Pedro Pereira and Kyriakopoulos are always on the field and do very demanding work. Daniel Maldini is recovering, while Vignato and Caldirola are making good progress.”

Nesta highlighted the team’s main challenge this season: “The big problem we’ve had since the beginning of the year is the continuity of each individual player. That said, I think the team is doing well, with some flaws that we can improve on.”

Regarding player availability for the Bergamo trip, Nesta provided updates: “Martins is not available, Forson still needs time. Ciurria had a complicated injury, it takes time to find his condition and we need to proceed calmly. We talk to him every day, but to find the Ciurria we knew and you knew takes time.”

The manager expressed strong support for captain Pessina: “He’s very important to us, but like all players in the world, he has his down periods. I’m sure he’ll soon be back to being the Pessina we know, and I will never question him, ever.”

Nesta seemed satisfied with recent results: “The results are good, it’s a pity about the last one because it was a beatable opponent, but we got the first half wrong. Some said we weren’t shooting enough, but in the last two games we scored 5 goals, which for me is an important statistic.”

Looking ahead to the Atalanta match, Nesta acknowledged the challenge: “Retegui is flying, Gasperini really shapes everyone. We will always try, things happen. It’s certainly a difficult game, playing against Atalanta is a bit like going to the dentist, we know that. If you start already defeated it’s not good, you have no chance.”
