Ahead of tonight’s Europa League Final, Sevilla sporting director Monchi believes having Jose Mourinho at the helm is an advantage for Roma. The Spaniard famously spent a brief but disastrous stint with the Giallorossi which saw him return to Sevilla just over a year later. Speaking with Sky Sport Italia, Monchi talked about a ‘special’ match against Roma, explaining why Mourinho’s winning streak could help inspire Roma:
“Such a special match: first because it is a final after a bad season, and then playing against Roma makes it even more special. The job in Sevilla is made for me. At Roma I had a good season getting to the final. The one with Sevilla is a longer journey.”
“The final? Mourinho is a top coach, he won all the finals he played. Having him is an advantage for Roma. I like the fact that he does not lose. When a team doesn’t lose it is because they do so many good things, we will have to be good. I don’t know what kind of game it will be, they we know how they play. It will be difficult. The team that makes fewer mistakes will win. Me Leaving Roma? The first year things went well, then not. I could have done better.”
