Former Juventus general director Luciano Moggi has shared his thoughts on the current Juventus squad ahead of their big match against Lazio. Speaking to Radio Bianconera, Moggi offered insights on potential January transfers and key players.
Regarding the January transfer window, Moggi stated, “The squad is certainly lacking up front. We need to make a virtue of necessity. Nico could also play as a striker, but we need a proper center-forward. False nine? Zirkzee is one, he does an excellent job in ball circulation. So far, we haven’t seen this work at Juve.”
Moggi highlighted the team’s struggles, saying, “The team is suffering, with only one home victory. It’s a problem that needs to be quantified and resolved. For the rest, we can make do. The management’s work has been excellent. With a new coach who needs to reaffirm what he did at Bologna, there’s no doubt about his qualities. However, the team hasn’t given this impression yet. Something is missing in midfield, in terms of leadership.”
On specific players, Moggi commented, “Koopmeiners? He’s an important player, but he can’t play as a second striker. He moves intelligently and can also shoot. He definitely needs to adapt to this new coach. However, the Dutchman can’t be a leader. Leaders are elected by teammates, and their role is important.”
Moggi also praised young talent Yildiz: “Yildiz is another very talented player. With the Turk and Nico, we need to put balls in for Dusan’s head, as well as challenge the opponent. Kenan will have a future.”
However, he was critical of Douglas Luiz, stating, “At this moment, Douglas Luiz should only be on the field if he changes course. What we’ve seen so far is too slow.”
Moggi concluded by emphasizing patience, saying, “This team was born for a cycle, and we need to wait to return to dominance. Now we wait for some additions.”
