Milan’s Okafor Transfer to RB Leipzig Falls Through After Failed Medical

Start

In an unexpected turn of events, Noah Okafor’s proposed move from AC Milan to RB Leipzig has collapsed after the Swiss forward failed to pass his medical examination. The transfer, which seemed all but completed, hit a major snag during the routine medical checks conducted by the German club.

Okafor had travelled to Germany on Monday, with both clubs having reportedly agreed on a loan deal with an option to buy. The terms were said to include a €1 million loan fee and a purchase option set at €24-25 million. However, concerns about Okafor’s fitness, which had been a point of contention earlier in the negotiations, have now derailed the transfer entirely.

The 24-year-old striker has struggled with injuries this season, most recently suffering a first-degree lesion of the soleus muscle in his right calf. This injury history appears to have been a decisive factor in Leipzig’s decision to halt the transfer process.

For Milan, this development complicates their transfer plans. The club had hoped Okafor’s departure would free up both a non-EU player slot and potentially some funds for new signings. With the deal now off, Okafor is expected to return to Italy, where he remains under contract with Milan until 2028, earning €2 million net per season.

Before departing for what he thought would be a new chapter in his career, Okafor had expressed gratitude to Milan fans, stating, “In life you never know, maybe we will meet again. For me it was the best choice. Thanks to the Milan fans, I leave a place that will forever be in my heart.” Now, it seems he will be staying at that place for the foreseeable future.

This failed transfer raises questions about Okafor’s future at Milan, where he has struggled to secure regular playing time since his €15 million move from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2023. In his year and a half with the Rossoneri, Okafor has made 52 appearances, scoring 5 goals and providing 7 assists.
