Milan take a stand on Leao situation: Club’s position on performance, market, and Fonseca

Start

Calciomercato report that AC Milan have taken a stance on the ongoing situation regarding Rafael Leao. The Portuguese forward, who was benched against Udinese and substituted at San Siro against Club Brugge, is understandably disappointed. He acknowledges he’s going through a difficult period and wants to make a more significant impact to help the team.

The club’s management is patiently waiting for Leao to regain form and is trying to shield him from excessive pressure. Recently, Milan’s CEO Giorgio Furlani spoke with the player’s entourage. While Leao is feeling down, he’s eagerly awaiting an opportunity to bounce back. The club maintains that there are no significant issues between Leao and coach Paulo Fonseca.

Milan’s stance is clear: they consider Leao the most talented player in the squad and believe that in the long run, there can’t be a great Milan without him. Therefore, the focus is on helping Leao recover his best form, involving him more, and making him feel like an integral part of the team – tasks that primarily fall to the coach.

Looking ahead to the upcoming away match against Bologna, there’s no clear favorite between Okafor and Leao for the starting position. The club expects Leao to show more precision, concentration, and a different level of application and spirit of sacrifice.

Regarding the transfer market, Milan are not considering Leao’s future beyond the next match. They’re not contemplating what might happen in January or next summer. However, Leao’s agent might be exploring options in the market. Last summer, there were some signals from Barcelona, although the Catalan club remains in financial crisis. If Barcelona resolves its economic issues, they might renew their interest.

For now, Milan remains focused on helping Leao regain his form and confidence, seeing him as a crucial part of their future success.
