Inter defender Milan Skriniar says the clubs defeat in the Champions League final will bother him for a long time: ‘It was a sad farewell’. The Slovakian international will be joining PSG as a free agent at the end of the month, despite the Nerazzurri’s best attempts to get him to remain in Milan. Speaking while on international duty, Skriniar talked about the decision to leave Inter, his injury woes this season, and a new life in Paris with the Ligue 1 champions:
“It was a sad farewell, the defeat in the (Champions League) final will bother us for a long time. We were close to winning the trophy, we gave a very good performance and we would have deserved more. I am proud of what we did during the game.
“Against Porto I played the final minutes on one leg, it was impossible to do more. I would have risked a more serious injury. It’s been a long time, I’ve never been out for so long.”
“I can say that I’m fine now: the operation got me back on my feet. I only regret that I didn’t decide sooner to have it done. I had surgery in Bordeaux and as soon as I woke up I felt that I had a tingling in my leg, I couldn’t feel the thigh muscle. I felt great after the operation. Five weeks later I was already training. The French doctors did a great job.”
“PSG? We’ll see what happens in Paris. The important thing is that I am well. I’ve been trying to make up for lost days with training, but you can’t get your match rhythm back without playing. If the coach decides I have to play, I am ready to help the team. I have been training with Inter for the last three weeks, so I am ready. The game is another thing, but I felt great in training. I am ready and determined.”
