Milan reignite Interest in Chukwuemeka

Start

AC Milan’s interest in Carney Chukwuemeka, a long-standing target, could be rekindled for the January transfer window. The Rossoneri have been tracking the young midfielder for some time, with attempts made both two years ago and this past summer.

According to reports from Relevo (via Calciomercato), Milan’s sporting director Moncada considered Chukwuemeka as early as June but didn’t pursue the deal aggressively. The interest was revived in the final days of the transfer window, with Chukwuemeka seen as an alternative to Adrien Rabiot, for whom Furlani couldn’t reach an economic agreement with his agent-mother Veronique.

Despite remaining at Chelsea, Chukwuemeka’s future in the first team looks uncertain, even with a contract running until 2028. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca recently commented, “Carney is an excellent player, but due to some past injuries… I think it’s important for him to play 30 or 35 consecutive games. Will he play for us? I’m not sure…”

In the closing days of the transfer window, West Ham and Manchester United inquired about Chukwuemeka, with the latter considering him as part of a potential deal involving Jadon Sancho. However, no move materialized.

While the Turkish transfer window remains open until September 13th, offering a potential exit route, Chukwuemeka is likely to stay in England for now, with new offers to be evaluated in the new year. In Italy, Napoli has also shown interest, but Milan could return with a stronger bid, especially considering Bennacer’s departure.

Chukwuemeka, who cost Chelsea £20 million two summers ago, has a release clause of £40 million. However, it’s believed he could be available for a significantly lower fee, making him an attractive prospect for Milan as they look to bolster their midfield options in January.
