Milan considering two-striker formation for derby

Start

AC Milan are reportedly considering a significant tactical shift for the upcoming Milan derby against Inter. Manager Paulo Fonseca is contemplating a move from the usual 4-2-3-1 formation to a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 setup, with Tammy Abraham potentially partnering Alvaro Morata in attack.

This change could see three alterations to the lineup that faced Liverpool in the Champions League. Calabria is sidelined with a muscular issue, while Pavlovic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are also expected to miss out. In their place, Emerson Royal, Gabbia, and Abraham are likely to step in.

Fonseca’s decision appears to be driven by a desire to have more ball-playing ability on the field, as he continues to implement his footballing philosophy.

The potential Milan lineup is as follows:

Milan (4-4-2): Maignan; Emerson, Gabbia, Tomori, Theo; Pulisic, Fofana, Reijnders, Leao; Morata, Abraham.

Meanwhile, Inter’s lineup is also taking shape. Federico Dimarco has recovered and is expected to start on the left, replacing Carlos Augusto. On the right, there’s a toss-up between Dumfries and Darmian. Simone Inzaghi is likely to field his strongest eleven, with Lautaro Martinez returning to partner Thuram in attack, and Mkhitaryan joining Barella and Calhanoglu in midfield. Sommer will be in goal, with Pavard, Acerbi (favored over De Vrij), and Bastoni forming the defensive line.

This tactical reshuffle sets the stage for an intriguing Milan derby, with both teams looking to gain an edge in this crucial Serie A encounter.
