Milan Awaits Walker’s Arrival as Deal Nears Completion

Start

AC Milan are  on the verge of securing their first major signing of the January transfer window, with Kyle Walker expected to join the Rossoneri imminently. The move comes in the wake of Sergio Conceição’s recent criticism of the team’s character following their defeat to Juventus, prompting the club to invest in experienced players with strong personalities.

Calciomercato report that Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now serving as a senior advisor to RedBird Capital Partners, has been instrumental in pushing for Walker’s acquisition. The English defender has already given his approval to the move after discussions with Ibrahimovic, and personal terms were agreed upon last Friday. The deal is reported to be a two-year contract worth approximately €4 million per season, with an additional €1 million in bonuses.

The final hurdle in completing the transfer lies in Walker’s negotiations with Manchester City. The player is personally working to terminate his contract, which is set to expire in June 2026, a year and a half early. However, City manager Pep Guardiola is reluctant to release the team captain on a free transfer. As a compromise, Milan is expected to present an offer for a paid loan of €1 million today.

Despite this last obstacle, there is significant optimism within the Milan camp that the deal will be concluded today, allowing Walker to travel to Italy soon. In anticipation of his arrival, the club has already scheduled medical examinations for Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest, paving the way for the official signing.

Walker’s impending arrival is seen as a statement of intent from Milan, addressing Conceição’s call for more leadership and experience within the squad. The veteran defender’s presence is expected to bolster not only the team’s defensive capabilities but also its overall mentality as they push for success in both domestic and European competitions.
