Mazzarri: “We’re not lucid, we miss a lot of chances”

Start

Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri voiced his frustrations following their 0-0 draw with Monza: “We’re not lucid, we miss a lot of chances.” The Partenopei dominated the match, having a number of shots on goal, but had to settle for a point in game that saw both coaches expelled from the touchline. Speaking post-match, Mazzarri tried to explain the reasons for the poor performance, explaining that Kvaratskhelia was singled out for some rough treatment from the Genoa players:

“Today we created 6 shots on goal and they didn’t go in. We are talking about a particular moment in which we are not lucid. Anguissa hit the goalkeeper from 4 metres out.”

“Kvaratskhelia? We tried a more central solution in  terms of his positioning. It was a very good situation, unfortunately he also didn’t take advantage of the chance of goal. On the game we try to do something different because he is always in a vice. He’ll benefit if the referees see when the others hammer him, sometimes it looks like rugby.

“Simeone’? Last year the minutes were similar. We’re improving, we only missed the goal. That also changes the mental aspect, that’s the only regret. We deserved to win 2 or 3-0.”

“League table? I don’t look at it, I think about improving the players from match to match.

“My sending off? It was a continuous provocation on Kvara and no one was cautioned. I get angry and get sent off. I complained that nobody takes action, they do all sorts of things to this guy. We also look at these things, because one gets tired.”
