Maurizio Sarri Hits Back at Luciano Moggi’s Relegation Claim

Start

Former Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri didn’t hold back in his response to Luciano Moggi’s recent suggestion that his Juventus side would’ve faced relegation if he had stayed at the club. Moggi, a controversial figure from Juventus’ past, made headlines with his remarks on Radio Bianconera, implying that Sarri’s tenure would’ve led to Serie B football for the Turin giants.

Sarri, who managed Juventus during the 2019-2020 season, leading them to the Serie A title, felt compelled to address Moggi’s comments through Lazio’s media department. “In regards to Moggi’s statements, I’m having trouble because I would have to respond to someone who has been banned and therefore I feel like I’m disrespecting everyone those who haven’t,” Sarri remarked.

He didn’t stop there, reminding Moggi of his own managerial stint at Juventus and the controversies surrounding it. “The truth is that Juventus’ last Scudetto came under my management and the truth is that in a history spanning over a century like that of Juve, the only relegation came under his management,” Sarri pointed out. He referred to Juventus’ relegation to Serie B during Moggi’s tenure, coupled with a hefty 17-point penalty.

Moggi, attempting to clarify his initial statement, suggested that his words were misunderstood. “I never said that with Sarri Juventus would’ve gone to Serie B, that can be ruled out. They won the title,” Moggi explained, pivoting to Sarri’s own comments about Juventus’ coachability.

Responding to Sarri’s remarks about his ban from football, Moggi expressed his hope that Sarri and his family would not face similar hardships. “Tell Sarri that I hope for him and his children, if he has any, that what happened to us does not happen to them,” Moggi stated.
