Juventus youngster Matias Soule has confirmed that he will be playing for the Argentina national side, turning down an offer from the Azzurri. The 20-year-old holds an Italian passport so would be eligible to play for the Italian team, and coach Luciano Spalletti confirmed that he was keeping a close eye on the youngster with a view to a call-up.
Soule has attracted attention since the start of the season, having made a loan move to Frosinone for the 2023-24 season. A stellar start has seen him score five goals and provide one assist in eight appearances in the current campaign, prompting Juve to already discuss a contract extension for the young talent.
Speaking with Sport Mediaset after Frosinone’s Coppa Italia win over Torino, Soule confirmed his intentions for the future, first addressing rumours about a January return to Juventus:
“I read something, but I don’t think about anything. I have my head here on Frosinone, we play every three days and that doesn’t make me think so much, but I don’t want it because I don’t know if in January, but in June it’s a lot of time, so I’m calm.”
“We’re aiming high, we play every game as if there were no opponents, we practice the same game against anyone. The coach tells us that he wants to play to always win….this is our way. We are very happy, young and we want to play. I think this is the right way to bring Frosinone as high as possible.”
“The Azzurri? I spoke with Spalletti, I told him the truth, that I felt Argentine. I thanked him because he wanted me, then I also spoke with Walter Samuel, who told me that I was provisionally called up. I’m waiting for Argentina, I don’t know if it will come now or later, but I’m Argentine, I was born there and my heart always tells me Argentina.”
