Prior to the World Cup, Argentina forward Lautaro Martinez provided insight on his humble beginnings and his growth as a South-American football player.

So far this season, the 25 year-old has been on an impeccable run of form for Inter, amassing eight goals and five assists in 21 appearances across all competitions.

As a result, the Nerazzurri talisman earned himself a spot within Scaloni’s 26-man roster that will feature in Qatar, alongside veterans Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria within front-line.

While speaking with Inter Media House, relayed by Fc Inter News , Martinez described how his career commenced and what it means to wear the national team jersey in front of an immense stage:

The first steps in football.

“When I was 14 I did both basketball and soccer, but soccer is in my blood.”

How has your city influenced you?

“A lot, the way of living and thinking. We always try to help each other in the city”.

Your favorite footballer.

“I choose Messi because I play with him after seeing him on TV. I made a dream come true when I started playing with Leo.”

Football in Argentina.

“We live in a similar way compared to Italy, when I arrived at Inter I said it right away. There is passion here, everything that being in a great team entails”.

Has Argentina influenced you?

“Definitely a lot because we know what Argentina means for the history of football, what Maradona did and what Messi is still doing. I try to do what I learned as a child.”

Places to visit in Argentina.

“Bahia Blanca, first of all, then Mendoza, my wife’s city, the city of wine. Obviously Buenos Aires, also for the football stadiums, and Patagonia. It’s fun”.

Do you watch football on TV?

“Not much, I watch Serie A and Argentine football for Racing. I’m not one who sits on the sofa to watch matches”.

The 2021 Copa America.

“It was a beautiful moment for me and for all of Argentina, also due to the difficult period we were experiencing in the world. Then the Albiceleste had been missing a title for many years. Diego (Maradona, ed) is not there more, it was a hard blow for us but in that year we gave them a very important Copa America. With a lot of work we made it, now we have to prepare for the future”.
