Speaking In an interview with DAZN, Inter Milan’s CEO Giuseppe Marotta discussed various topics, including the team’s recent performance and transfer market activities. The interview took place just before Inter’s match against Fiorentina, a quick rematch following their 3-0 defeat at the Franchi stadium only four days prior.
Marotta expressed the team’s desire for redemption and the opportunity to close the gap with league leaders Napoli to just one point. When asked about the necessity of avoiding mistakes, Marotta stated, “We must play to win regardless of the opponent. Clearly, there was disappointment in recent days due to how we lost, which I believe will serve as an additional motivation for tonight.”
Addressing rumors about Inter’s interest in Joao Felix, who recently joined AC Milan, Marotta clarified, “We didn’t initiate any negotiations. We evaluated the names circulating in the market and those who could potentially move from their clubs, but we decided to maintain our current squad. Therefore, we didn’t pursue what was an interest on our part, while maintaining respect for the player.”
Regarding the performance of strikers Taremi, Arnautovic, and Correa, who have underperformed this season, Marotta defended the team’s offensive capabilities. “Statistically, we are a prolific team with the best attack in the league. It’s rare to witness a match like Thursday’s where we don’t score and create few chances. The team’s problem isn’t scoring goals,” he explained.
Marotta acknowledged the impact of physical and mental fatigue on the team’s recent performances. “There’s absolutely nothing to reproach the team and coach for; they are serious professionals who always give their all. During this period, the mental aspect was quite heavy, especially from a psychophysical point of view. It’s not an excuse, and it happens not only to us. We need to be even better and turn this weakness into a strength. We must adapt to a calendar that is far too stressful,” he concluded.
