Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta has shared his thoughts on the Serie A title race and the club’s relationship with manager Simone Inzaghi in a wide-ranging interview with Sky Sport, as part of the documentary “Inter’s Year.“
Discussing the Scudetto battle, Marotta said, “We’re only in the first half of the season, and the favorites are always the same. There’s a small group at the top with Atalanta, Inter, and Napoli, although Milan and Juventus are ready to join in. However, I believe that this year one of the favorites is Atalanta, a model to follow that has shown it can win without spending a lot of money, as they did in the Europa League.”
When asked about his perceived verbal duel with Napoli manager Antonio Conte, Marotta clarified, “It’s not a rivalry. I always try to push our opponents to feel pressure. It’s a communication game, but there’s respect between the parties.”
Marotta also praised Inter’s current manager, Simone Inzaghi: “Inzaghi has proven to be a great professional and an intelligent person. He arrived at Inter on tiptoes, without making proclamations. He grew as he achieved results, gaining awareness of his own abilities. He is a leader, he knows how to instill a culture of work, passion, and a sense of belonging. All these components are supported by the management, and have created a symbiosis that has taken us far. Ausilio, as sporting director, is the one who interacts most with Inzaghi, but since ours is a team game, the dialogue is daily and everyone brings their expertise.”
