Inter director Giuseppe Marotta hailed Monza’s Adriano Galliani as an ‘icon’ and shed some light on contract talks with Lautaro Martinez. The Nerazzurri boss was speaking at the FICTS Festival for Sport Movies & TV, where he was awarded with Guirlande d’Honneure together with the CEO of Monza, Adriano Galliani:
“Me being here for me is a great source of pride, with me among the winners there is Adriano Galliani who for me is a model, an icon of sport. He is older than me so I could take a lot of things from him even if the first matches we experienced together were at the end of the 70s, when he was in Monza and I was a kid in Varese. His awards count is much richer than mine but I hope, I do not say to match it, because it is impossible, but to get closer and above all to always have in front of me, his model of being a reference. We share great values, such as that of sport of which we are both passionate about football. But also the courage and humility, values that are encased in sport.
“New Inter stadium? I do not go into the merits of the communication on the stadium that Antonello does. It’s a need for any club and we are on this path.”
“Colpani? We have excellent relations with Monza and they have within the squad, elements valid for both the clubs and for our national team. If there are concrete things, we will develop them later.”
“We are focused on the present not on the future and this represents something future and not current events”
“Lukaku? We talked on several occasions about the Lukaku case and it represents the past. The chapter is closed and we have reiterated it several times.”
“Lautaro? We are facing negotiations that lead to prolonging life with Inter. He, like other guys, has shown a sense of belonging to an important club. That flatters us. We will do it calmly because it is not a situation that creates problems and they are dynamic to manage within the sports season.”
“The cycle started with Zhang in 2018 is constantly growing. It is a positive reference model that has led to happiness that could have been more. We missed the most important event in world football, but from there we learned and there is awareness of wanting to play a leading role: the history of the club tells us, the ownership wants it and the fans with the greatest turnout in the history of Italian football want it.
“Future of the club? I can say that Steven and the Zhang family love Inter. And the inter must be grateful: the family has lavished over the years many millions of euros of funding. Then they have so much passion: in us managers they have inculcated the concept of delegation and in full autonomy we act in the best way”.
