Marash Kumbulla suffers knee injury, Belotti has cracked rib

Start

Roma’s injury crisis goes from bad to worse as Marash Kumbulla looks to be out for the season, while Andrea Belotti has a cracked rib. The pair picked up their injuries during the 1-1 draw against Milan and will be added to the list of players in the infirmary, right as the season comes to a close.

Kumbulla only made it to the 15 minute mark before having to limp off after being caught in a collision with Olivier Giroud. Sky Sport Italia now report that the injury is worse than initially reported as the defender has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, meaning his season is effectively over.

Belotti was in difficulty breathing, shortly after the restart, and was replaced by Stephan El Shaarawy. Tests have confirmed that he sustained a cracked rib, which also puts him at risk for the remaining fixtures.

It’s dreadful news for the Giallorossi who are already missing a slew of first team players as they prepare for their semi-final Europa League match with Bayer Leverkusen and bid to qualify for next seasons Champion League.

Defender Chris Smalling is expected to return for a handful of matches before the season comes to a close, while midfielder Gini Wijnaldum is thought to be on the verge of beginning first team training again.

Full-back Rick Karsdop is expected to be out for the rest of the season along with centre-back Diego Llorente, leaving Mourinho with limited options in his back-line.
