Roberto Mancini has released a brief statement on his social media accounts, following his decision to resign as Italy coach. The 58-year-old left the position on Sunday morning, with the FIGC confirming the news in a brief statement, thanking Mancini for his work as head coach.
Taking to Instagram, Mancini made a brief statement of his own regarding the resignation, saying:
Resignation as national team coach was my personal choice.
I thank President Gabriele Gravina for the trust, along with all the members of the FIGC.
I greet and thank all my players and fans who have accompanied me in these 5 years. I will always carry in my heart the extraordinary victory of the 2020 European Championship.
It was an honour, Azzurri.
