Former Italy national team coach Roberto Mancini has opened up about his controversial decision to leave his position with the Azzurri in August 2023. In a recent interview with Tg1, Mancini expressed regret over his choice to depart for Saudi Arabia, citing football-related reasons.
“No, I wouldn’t make the decision to leave Italy for Saudi Arabia again for technical reasons, for football reasons. Coaching the national team is the most beautiful thing,” Mancini stated. He hinted at a possible misunderstanding during a difficult moment, specifically mentioning Italian Football Federation president Gabriele Gravina when asked about the lack of comprehension.
Addressing accusations that he left for financial gain, Mancini defended his reputation: “My history speaks for itself. Those who don’t know the story should go back and read it, and then they can speak.”
The former coach also touched on his future prospects in football management. When questioned about potential contact from clubs, Mancini revealed, “I haven’t been contacted by anyone, but something will happen. It’s just a matter of time.”
