Manchester United sack Ten Hag: Allegri and Xavi among potential replacements

Start

Manchester United has officially announced the dismissal of Erik ten Hag as their manager following a disappointing start to the Premier League season. The Dutch coach’s tenure came to an end after a defeat against West Ham, leaving the Red Devils in 14th place with just eleven points from nine matches.

Calciomercato report how Ruud van Nistelrooy, Ten Hag’s assistant, has been appointed as interim manager and will lead the team in their upcoming EFL Cup match against Leicester on October 30th, and likely in the Premier League fixture against Chelsea on November 3rd.

Meanwhile, the club’s management has begun the search for a permanent replacement, with several high-profile names emerging as potential candidates.

Massimiliano Allegri, currently without a managerial position since leaving Juventus, is being considered as a strong contender. Known for his ability to manage big clubs and handle pressure, Allegri could be the right fit to stabilize United’s current situation.

However, Xavi appears to be the frontrunner for the position. The former Barcelona manager has reportedly already been in contact with United’s management, even before the West Ham match. His potential appointment has garnered support from a significant portion of the United fanbase. Adding fuel to the speculation, Xavi’s wife recently posted an Instagram story showing him playing with football cards alongside his son wearing a Manchester United shirt.

Other candidates being considered include Thomas Frank, the current Brentford manager, though his appointment would require United to pay a release clause. Gareth Southgate, who recently left his position as England’s national team manager, is also in the mix.

Edin Terzic, previously mentioned by The Sun as a potential replacement for Ten Hag, rounds out the list of possible candidates.
