Manchester United Close to Securing Joshua Zirkzee Signing

Start

Manchester United are in the final stages of completing a deal for Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee. The Premier League giants have made significant progress in their pursuit of the Dutch striker, with personal terms and agent commissions already agreed upon.

The 23-year-old Zirkzee has a €40 million (£34 million) release clause in his contract with Bologna. The NY Times report how while United are still in discussions about the final fee, they view the overall package as good value for money despite a substantial agent commission.

United are exploring two options to complete the transfer: activating the release clause, which requires full payment upfront, or negotiating a separate fee with Bologna. The club is working to resolve potential cashflow issues associated with the release clause payment.

Zirkzee has emerged as United’s primary striker target following an impressive season in Serie A. The Dutch international netted 11 league goals and provided 5 assists, playing a crucial role in Bologna’s qualification for next season’s Champions League under manager Thiago Motta.

The acquisition of Zirkzee is seen as a strategic move to bolster United’s attacking options. The club views him as a complementary player to last summer’s £64 million signing Rasmus Hojlund, and a replacement for the departed Anthony Martial.

United’s interest in Zirkzee was first reported last month, with the club identifying the need to strengthen their forward line. The imminent signing of Zirkzee demonstrates United’s commitment to enhancing their offensive capabilities and providing more tactical flexibility in attack.
