Monza head coach held a press conference to discuss the upcoming match against Lecce, scheduled for Sunday at the Via del Mare. Nesta addressed the current situation of his players, particularly focusing on Daniel Maldini.
Nesta stated, “I always say the same thing: it’s not a technical-tactical issue but rather about management. We have all faced criticism; Daniel needs to learn to manage situations mentally.” He reflected on his own experiences as a player, saying, “When I started playing, I struggled with it too. I had to learn to handle the adrenaline and everything that comes with it, especially in a world like football.”
On the injury front, Nesta confirmed that both Vignato and Petagna would be unavailable for the match, adding that they would assess Djuric’s condition closer to game time.
When asked about potential changes in formation, Nesta indicated that there would be no significant alterations. He mentioned, “We are looking to have more solutions available. Whether we play with three or four at the back doesn’t change much. Having more midfielders gives us more alternatives.”
Nesta also provided insight into the team’s morale, describing it as optimistic despite recent challenges. “We have definitely missed something, but it’s always been a gradual improvement,” he said. He expressed satisfaction with their last performance against Udinese, despite the result. “The first and second goals from Udinese were not due to counter-attacks; we simply misread the situation,” he explained.
He acknowledged that Monza’s current position near the bottom of the standings is primarily due to their inability to secure points when needed. “We are second to last because we haven’t earned points; it all boils down to that,” he noted. “When it’s time to win, we need to win, and that strength has been lacking.”
