Lukaku: ‘Being at Inter was a motivation to win’

Start

Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku says being at Inter was a motivation to win: ‘I knew we would become champions from day one.’ The 30-year-old striker is returning to Chelsea this summer, but the Nerazurri are still hopeful of snagging Lukaku on loan for the next campaign. Speaking with Prime Video, Lukaku spoke about his early days with Inter, and why he knew they would eventually be victorious in their pursuit of trophies:

“I still remember the first day I signed for Inter. I landed, the people, the weather, the food…. My family was happy  there, it was everything for me. I was happy like that. If we had won nothing, no trophies, I would have been very disappointed. That’s how it is. It was a motivation to win. The first year we lost, we were very bitter. Then we became champions. Okay, I knew we would become one from day one. The trainings were-motivated.”

“I felt motivated, I felt I had reached the next level and that would help me throughout the season. And then when it happened I thought ‘we did it. Romelu, you really did it.’ Sometimes in life you can be an entrepreneur, a doctor, an artist, that’s enough but a moment like that, that song, that day. Everybody hopes to have that moment in their life, that moment when you think ‘I am where I want to be.’ For me it was then where I thought ‘okay, I did it.’ And I showed my emotions on the field for the first time. An emotion of pure joy. I was overjoyed.”
