Lotito: “We’ve Spent 40 Million, We’ll Build a Competitive Team”

Claudio Lotito, president of Lazio, has provided clarity on the club’s transfer market strategy during the press conference introducing Marco Baroni as the new head coach. Lotito emphasized that the club is not downsizing but rather reorganizing, with a focus on rewarding merit:

“Lazio is not downsizing but reorganizing. We aim to reward merit. The choice of Baroni was deliberate and based on the project that Lazio wants to pursue,” Lotito stated.

The president continued by explaining that their choices are functional in the current football world, which often prioritizes economic interests over club loyalty. Lazio, according to Lotito, is taking a different approach by selecting a coach who focuses on practical results rather than just ideas.

Regarding the transfer market, Lotito revealed, “We’ve spent 40 million on the market. We have no terms of comparison and we will build a competitive team. The team was also competitive last year, but not from a mental point of view”.

Lotito also addressed the departure of some players, particularly expressing regret over Felipe Anderson’s exit, which he described as a life choice. He provided some financial details, stating that last year’s costs amounted to 101 million euros.
