Lazio president Claudio Lotito says Igor Tudor has a similar character to him, while also seemingly aiming a dig at former coach Maurizio Sarri. Following the Lazio Women-Freedom match, Lotito spoke to the club’s official TV chanell, touching on various topics including coach Tudor and the current state of the first team:
“The individual players need to be held accountable; Lazio is seen as a destination, not a starting point, and this is acknowledged by everyone, including the coach himself. While I oversee things from here, they are the ones out on the field.
“The only thing I can do is provide players who continuously want to take on this role within the club, then the matches become a separate story. Tudor can bring back that desire and pride to say, ‘We are here too.’ Against those who are currently ahead of us, perhaps we could have won as well.
“In Tudor, I see my character; he is a genuine person. Everyone is overstructured, ready to create excuses, and that’s a mistake. It’s a wrong signal to the team; those who are in the best form relative to the opponent should play. Yesterday, Tudor made it clear: ‘Playing well is fine, but what matters to me is winning.’ Now there are conditions to do so, just like in the women’s team. I’ve told some players to take a cue from the women’s team.”
